The Power Of Backlinks

The power of backlinks.

I preach time and time again that there are 2 main ways to boost a website in the SERPs:

1. Quality, relevant content.

2. Quality backlinks on relevant sites (with keywords in the anchor text).

All too often, webmasters become obsessed over the on-page SEO factors when they should really be focusing more time on getting links. Links can have more effect on your site in the SERPs than any other factor. And I’m going to prove it to you…

SEO Mob Boss

With enough quality links, your site can be as powerful as a mob boss  :)

Do a Google search for the keywords: “click here”. I see about 1,280,000,000 results come up here in the USA.

And who is #1? Adobe. In fact, it’s for the Acrobat Reader download page that comes up first. Why? It’s because of the number of links out there, all saying something similar to “Get Acrobat Reader Today - CLICK HERE“.

Think about it. How many other websites out there offer some form of PDF content? And most of them probably have the link to download Adobe Reader somewhere on their site (if you are trying to display PDF content or offer PDF downloads, it’s common sense to go ahead and make it easy for your visitors to get the Reader if they don’t already have it and post the link for the download).

If you visit the Acrobat Reader download page, you will not find any on-page optimizations for the keywords “click here”. They don’t even use a keywords or description tag. And the title tag makes no mention of “click here”.

A variation of the word “click” only shows up 1 time on their page - “By clicking the Download button you agree to…” But other than that, they do not have any text content for “click” or “click here”.

Backlinks alone are making them #1 for a keyword that pulls up 1.28 billion results….Links are POWERFUL!

Should you go ahead and quit doing on-page optimizations? Hell no! That’s not at all what I am saying. But there does come a time when a website is optimized to the gills and you should focus more attention on getting links.

On-page SEO is only half the battle. The rest of it is getting the links you need to boost your site up in the SERPs.

Backlinks are powerful… Now go get some and show the competition who’s boss :)
